MacroMeals

About
MacroMeals is an AI-powered nutrition tracking mobile app built and owned by EMIT Labs. The goal was simple: make macro tracking easier, smarter, and more relevant to everyday users.
Most dieting apps are built around Western food databases and generic fitness plans. We saw a gap in the market, especially for users in African and diaspora communities whose meals were not accurately recognized or supported.
MacroMeals was designed to solve that problem while still serving different types of users. Whether someone cooks at home, eats out frequently, or is just starting their fitness journey, the app provides a practical way to stay consistent.
Challenge
Build a nutrition app that serves multiple real-life eating behaviours without becoming generic.
Most nutrition apps are either too complex or too limited. They often assume one type of user and one type of food culture.
We wanted MacroMeals to support:
Users tracking traditional African meals
Users who cook at home and want structured macro guidance
Users who eat out but still want to stay within their diet
Users who need flexibility without losing structure
The challenge was building something broad enough to serve these different scenarios, while keeping the experience focused and easy to use.
We needed to avoid building a “jack of all trades” app. Instead, every feature had to serve a clear purpose for a defined user behaviour.
Solution
An AI-powered nutrition ecosystem designed around real user scenarios.
MacroMeals was built as a full mobile product, combining intelligent food recognition, structured macro planning, and behaviour-driven features into one cohesive system.
01. Accurate Meal Scanning
We trained the meal recognition system to better capture African and locally relevant dishes, improving accuracy where most global apps fall short.
02. Personalised Macro Setup
Users receive customised macro targets based on their goals, activity level, and body metrics, ensuring clarity from the start.
03. Meal Finder
A location-based meal discovery feature that helps users find meals aligned with their macro goals when eating out.
04. Recipe Builder
A structured tool for users who cook at home, allowing them to calculate and build recipes that match their macro targets.
05. Progress Tracking
Clear dashboards for tracking weight, goals, and daily macro performance to encourage consistency over time.
Results
Product validation and measurable traction.
Since launch, MacroMeals has demonstrated early validation in multiple markets. The app has attracted users across the UK, USA, Ghana, Sweden, and Australia, confirming demand beyond a single geography.
The data shows strong engagement and conversion performance for an early-stage consumer product, validating both the market need and the product direction.
MacroMeals also serves as proof of EMIT Labs’ ability to:
Build and launch full consumer mobile apps
Integrate AI meaningfully into real workflows
Design for specific cultural and behavioural contexts
Take a product from idea to live distribution
